Boxee gains Wall Street Journal Live app

Boxee users now have access to live video broadcasts from the Wall Street Journal. The WSJ Live app also offers thousands of free on-demand videos from both WSJ and other Dow Jones network sites.

WSJ Live will provide four hours of live news every day. Shows include News Hub, Markets Hub, Lunch Break, Digits, Mean Street, Opinion Journal, and more. According to Boxee, that represents “at least 2 more hours of actual live news every day than WSJ Live’s cable news counterparts.”

In addition, the WSJ Live app offers breaking news updates, exclusive interviews, and special events coverage.

Here are a pair of WSJ Live screenshots provided by Boxee:

“With original content pouring in from Dow Jones’s army of journalists at publications like Dow Jones Newswires, Barron’s, Marketwatch, SmartMoney, and AllThingsDigital, this app is going to quickly become invaluable to any news-junkies on Boxee,” suggests Nick Miller of Boxee’s marketing team.

A WSJ Live app is also available for the iPad and other devices. Learn more about WSJ Live here.

Will this app work for the PC version of Boxee or only the Boxee Box?

Unfortunately, WSJ Live won’t be available on the PC/Mac/Linux version of Boxee until the new Boxee browser comes out, which will be part of the big “Fall” Boxee software update for PC/Mac/Linux update. Apparently, WSJ Live for Boxee is an HTML5 app, a protocol that the new version of the Boxee browser (when it’s released) will support.
