Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communications technologies can aid advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) by helping “extend a vehicle’s field of vision,” according to Benjamin Oberkersch, PR officer for Daimler AG and simTD, the firm’s V2X field test project.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) recently held a free public meeting to review status and future plans associated with the agency’s IntelliDrive multimodal transportation research initiative. The event focused in particular on applications involving real-time data capture and management and dynamic mobility.

Europe’s “biggest and most relevant event” targeting the automotive, mobile, and wireless telematics industry will be held in Munich this Fall. Telematics Munich 2010, to be held Nov. 3-4, is expected to draw more than 400 telematics “leaders and decision makers,” say event organizers.

A regional conference for experts and stakeholders in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic engineering and operations, and transportation planning will be held this December in Florida. “Transpo2010″ will feature technical presentations, discussion, training, tours of nearby ITS facilities, and a technology expo, among other ITS-oriented activities.

The second annual IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference today launched its conference website and issued a call for papers. Scheduled for Dec. 13-15, 2010 in New Jersey, IEEE VNC 2010 will cover a wide range of networking topics, including V2V, V2I, and VANET communications, as well as the overall impact of connected vehicles on transportation efficiency and safety.
