DeviceGuru,
Thankyou for the nice reply. I need to come back here once I get kbuntu. Right now I'm running ubuntu, and I love it. Actually I can't believe how much I like it. Especially since I went in knowing I wouldn't like it and actually installed it so I could laugh at it. Boy am I embarrassed. When one goes in with that kind of attitude you usually prove yourself right. Not in this case. I tried ubuntu in the dietant past. They have their game plan on with this release. I have sent away for the kbuntu and ubuntu cd's.
Thanks again, Vern

to Vern...

For TT fonts, download the package called "msttcorefonts" using apt-get or Adept. Also, in KDE, you might want to go into K-Menu > System Settings > Appearance > Fonts and enable Anti-aliasing, and in the Configure dropdown, check "Use sub-pixel hinting" and (for an LCD monitor) select Slight for "hinting style." I love the fonts that the debian distros (including Kubuntu) provide -- imo it's nicer than Windows, at least the XP variety. Also, there are some very nice fonts available from Red Hat, here (specifically, this file). Download and untar the file, then use KDE to add them to your system's available fonts (use K-Menu > System Settings > Appearance > Font Installer > etc..).

I find this ironic. I to left debian Etch because my sound kept leaving me. I posted comments and edited several files and it worked for a spell and then and error occured and no sound.

I went to Mandriva, Sidux, and just by chance and mainly because of all the negative nonsense I installed ubuntu 8.04 LTS. Wow is all I can say. It works flawlessly. Maybe I'm lucky if you believe all the horrow stories told regarding ubuntu.

Regarding your "Blacktower". Very impressive. I like the buildin SATA connections and their placement. My one SATA is in an awkward position. Also, it looks as though you don't have a IDE connection.

The case is just beautiful!

These are exactly the reasons I stay with Debian. I know that when I freshly install a machine with Debian / GNU Linux everything probably won't work 'out of the box', but getting everything to work allows me to ensure that I do it my way. Normally, all you have to do is to re-compile your kernel in /usr/src and everything will snap on and the config files are all in one convenient place.

Of course, your next trick would be to install VMWare Server on both installs, and set that up so you can boot from either, and run the other in a VMWare session... which works :)
