iPad vs Galaxy Tab smackdown

[Updated Aug 25, 2012] – Before launching into this review, which pits Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 against Apple’s iPad 2, I took a few days to familiarize myself with the Galaxy Tab’s Android 3.1 (“Honeycomb”) OS. The thing is, I’d already used iOS on an iPod Touch for two years, but was a rank newbie when it came to Android.

[Updated Dec. 28, 2012] — It’s looking like 2012 will go down as a watershed for “cord-cutters” seeking to replace expensive cable TV services with low-cost gadgets that stream movies and TV shows from the Internet via free, subscription, and pay-per-view services. Accordingly, this DeviceGuru “smackdown” pits five popular streaming media player devices against each other, based on their features, functions, specs, and quality of implementation.

Third-generation Apple TV review and screenshots

This in-depth review takes a close look at the second- and third-generation Apple TV streaming media players, equipped with their recently released v5.0 firmware. Despite the third-generation Apple TV’s hardware and user interface tweaks, Apple still hasn’t added a plug-in apps ecosystem; but the v5.0 firmware’s revamped icon-style user interface hints that such a capability is in the offing.

Netgear NTV200 review and screenshot tour

Netgear recently introduced the NeoTV NTV200, a compact, low power, highly integrated, streaming media player that’s quite similar to Roku’s latest devices. Netgear clearly intends the NTV200 to capture some market share from the highly-popular Apple TV and Roku 2 streaming media players. Will it succeed?

This in-depth review and screenshot tour takes a close look at Roku’s latest streaming media players. Although the Roku 2 series players are smaller and cost less than their predecessors, they’re jam-packed with multimedia apps, offer multiple A/V outputs along with microSD and USB expansion, and are significantly less power-thirsty.
