Boxee Box price drops to $180
Last updated Sep 4, 2011 — 640 viewsD-Link appears to have reduced the suggested retail price of the Boxee Box from $200 to $180, possibly due to pressure from Roku’s sub-$100 device and Logitech’s price-slashed ($99) Google TV player.
In May, Logitech’s Google TV system (aka the Logitech Revue) saw a 33 percent price decrease, to $199. Then, in July, Logitech slashed the Revue’s price to $99, and booked a loss in its quarterly financial report.

In parallel, Roku refreshed its popular family of streaming media players, adding a model with an enhanced RF-remote control for playing “casual games,” and shrinking the devices’ typical power consumption to less than 2 watts. Their devices are now priced from $60 to $100.
Whether due to pressure from the growing perception of a $100 price point, excess inventory, recession-constrained consumer budgets, or volume-based cost reductions, D-Link’s Boxee Box device has just begun selling for $179.99 at Amazon.com and elsewhere.
