Viewsonic drops Boxee-powered TV plans

Although ViewSonic demoed a prototype of a 46-inch HDTV “powered by Boxee” at CES in January, we’ve just learned that ViewSonic has decided against bringing the product to market.

Boxee Box price drops to $180

D-Link appears to have reduced the suggested retail price of the Boxee Box from $200 to $180, possibly due to pressure from Roku’s sub-$100 device and Logitech’s price-slashed ($99) Google TV player.

Personal cloud-server gizmo goes mobile

Cloud Engines is now accepting preorders for a new version of its Pogoplug personal cloud-server gadget, targeting users of Android and iOS mobile devices. Although dubbed “Pogoplug Mobile,” the compact new model remains powered by an AC wall-wart and communicates via wired Ethernet.

Boxee adds Mog music streaming app

A Mog music-streaming Boxee app is now available to users of PCs, Macs, and Boxee Box devices. The new app provides access to over 11 million songs, all at better than HD audio quality (320kbps).

Android 3.1 coming to Google TV boxes soon

Notwithstanding the Logitech Revue Google TV system’s drastic price reduction to $99, all new and existing devices will soon be updated to Google TV version 2, based on Android 3.1 (“Honeycomb”).
