“The Nissan Leaf electric car can go up to 100 miles on a charge, but that may not always be enough. So, for Leaf owners outside the U.S. who are planning a trip longer than that, Nissan is considering a solution: gasoline-powered loaner cars,” reports CNN.com.

Casting it as the “world’s first mass-produced, plug-in electric vehicle with a range-extending onboard engine,” GM formally launched the five-door, four-passenger Chevrolet Volt today. It’s “designed to provide the benefits of an electric vehicle without the range limitations associated with other electric vehicles in the market,” says GM. In related news, however, the Web is abuzz with assertions that the Volt actually is a PHEV (plug-in hybrid EV), not an ER-EV (extended-range EV).
Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations will soon be available at a dozen Best Buy electronics retail stores in Tucson, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Seattle as part of a $100 million government-funded “EV Project,” says charging station supplier ECOtality.
