U.S. spending $1.4B on Intelligent Transport Systems in 2010

The U.S. will spend a total of $1.4 billion on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) deployments during 2010, according to a new report from IMS Research. While California and Florida lead the states in ITS investments, 26 other states significantly expanded the scope of their ITS deployments this year.

IEEE conference targets “intelligent sustainable mobility”

The 13th International IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference (“ITSC 2010”) will be held on Madeira Island, Sept. 19-22. With the theme of “On the Way to Intelligent Sustainable Mobility,” the event will focus on research and applications of leading advances in communications, computer, control, electronics, and information technologies relating to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Electric vehicle show sparks Silicon Valley interest

With Nissan and GM set to deliver new all-electric cars to U.S. consumers later this year (pictured at left), Californians are agog at the prospect of the exhaust- and noise-free vehicles swishing around on their highways and byways. Nowhere was that more apparent than at this week’s “Plug-in 2010” conference in Silicon Valley.

Euro Intelligent Transport System forum videos available

Presentation videos from the annual Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Europe Forum, held June 15 in Brussels, are now available for public online access. This year’s event had the theme, “Bringing Intelligence into Mobility — Deployment Challenges.” and was sponsored by ERTICO – ITS Europe, a public/private ITS stakeholder partnership.

Back to the Futurama with connected vehicles

A GM-sponsored exhibition at the 1939 New York World’s Fair portrayed a transportation-centric world 20 years hence, complete with vast superhighway networks. Interestingly, GM’s “Futurama” accurately predicted wireless-enabled connected vehicle technologies that are just now — 70 years later — being readied for deployment.
