Nissan Leaf to be rated at 99 mpg

Based on tests by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Nissan Leaf’s fuel efficiency window sticker will indicate an mpg equivalence of 106 mpg for city driving, and 92 mpg on highways, for a combined average of 99 mpg, according to news reports today.

U.S. DOT launches “Faces of Distracted Driving” video series

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood this week launched “Faces of Distracted Driving,” a series of online videos aimed at driving home the “tragic consequences” of texting or using cellphones while driving. The videos feature people who’ve been injured or lost loved ones due to distracted-driving crashes.

Whitepaper urges the U.S. to invest in “smart mobility”

A recently published whitepaper explains how existing and emerging technologies can squeeze more capacity from over-burdened highways, help commuters avoid traffic delays, and expand and improve transportation options, while saving money and creating jobs. The paper makes seven specific recommendations for federal transportation policy.

Honda Fit EV electric car due in 2012

Honda today unveiled its “Fit EV Concept” electric vehicle, a forerunner of an all-electric version of the Honda Fit hatchback. The company plans to begin delivering the Fit EV to customers in the U.S. and Japan in 2012.

Mitsubishi electric car to be priced lower than Nissan Leaf

Mitsubishi will price its electric car around 10 percent lower than the Nissan Leaf when it hits the North American market in 2012, according to the Wall Street Journal.
