Mitsubishi electric car to be priced lower than Nissan Leaf
Last updated Nov 17, 2010 — 5 viewsMitsubishi will price its electric car around 10 percent lower than the Nissan Leaf when it hits the North American market in 2012, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Currently designated the “i-MiEV,” Mitsubishi’s first mass-market vehicle will be known as the “Mitsubishi I” in North America, WSJ editor Mike Ramsey reports.
“Yoshikazu Nakamura, the senior executive officer overseeing Mitsubishi’s electric-vehicle business, said the Japanese company’s goal is to deliver the least expensive electric car possible, rather than focus on improving the vehicle’s range or performance,” writes Ramsey.

EV Insider footnote:
Mitsubishi Motors recently announced that it had begun producing the European-specific version (pictured at right) of its i-MiEV electric vehicle. Although Nissan had already been selling the Japanese version of the i-MiEV for about a year, the company said this marked the first “full-fledged” export of the company’s compact EV. Mitsubishi added that it expected to sell 5,000 i-MiEVs overseas during its 2010 fiscal year (April, 2010 – March, 2011). These will include specially branded models for Peugeot Citroen: the Peugeot iOn and the Citroen C-Zero, the company said.
