Overcoming electric car “range anxiety”

“Electric cars are a big part of California’s plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” says KQED Public Radio. “That is, if drivers can overcome so-called ‘range anxiety’ — the fear of being stranded in an electric car because the battery has run out. Toyota to pay Tesla $60M for electric RAV4 tech

Tesla Motors this week disclosed an agreement with Toyota to develop an electric powertrain system for the electric version of the RAV4. Toyota will pay Tesla approximately $60 million for the contracted development services.

Electric cars face a critical year

“Next year will be critical for the future of plug-in vehicles” writes the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “In the next few months, Nissan will launch the Leaf electric car and rival General Motors will offer its Chevrolet Volt electric car with a gasoline engine backup system. Failure of any of the vehicles could be disastrous.”
