Intelligent Transport Systems for Dummies

We happened upon a delightful video that presents and explains several traffic-related Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) concepts. The video, which takes the form of a conversation between a child and her dad along with animated illustrations, covers applications and technologies such as cooperative vehicles and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications without resorting to technical jargon.

IntelliDrive Safety Workshop talk slides available

The U.S. DOT’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS-JPO) has concluded a three-day, free workshop at which the DOT’s IntelliDrive Safety program research roadmaps were presented and discussed. Slides from the IntelliDrive Safety Workshop’s first six presenters are now available for download in pdf format.

Survey assesses Optical Wireless Communications potential

An in-progress online survey by a researcher at the Technical University of Dresden is attempting to assess the potential of Optical Wireless Communications (OWC) technology in various markets, including vehicular applications. Interested participants are encouraged to vote, and in return will receive a copy of the survey’s results.

Vehicular Networking Conference solicits papers

The second annual IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference today launched its conference website and issued a call for papers. Scheduled for Dec. 13-15, 2010 in New Jersey, IEEE VNC 2010 will cover a wide range of networking topics, including V2V, V2I, and VANET communications, as well as the overall impact of connected vehicles on transportation efficiency and safety.
