EU adopts new Intelligent Transport Systems plan

The European Parliament has just approved a new Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) directive, aimed at creating a cleaner, safer, and more efficient transport system throughout Europe. The new is intended to accelerate the deployment of innovative transport technologies across Europe.

French researchers are investigating ways in which motorcycles and mopeds might benefit from Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technologies and applications. Prospective applications reportedly include vehicle-to-roadside communications, improved safety, and human/machine interfaces that reduce stress.
After nearly two decades, intelligent transportation system (ITS) technology is finally gaining ground on our highways, according to a recent article in Better Roads Magazine. While ideas like self-driving vehicles have tickled the fancy of the media and the public, a more immediate goal of ITS is to enable the tracking of vehicle movements in order to manage traffic volume and reduce congestion, the article suggests.
