[Updated Oct. 22, 2010] — Following months of teasers, Logitech finally launched its Google TV player today at simultaneous press events in New York and San Francisco. The company’s Google TV family includes the Android-based “Revue” STB (set-top box), large and mini remote controls, free iPhone and Android remote control apps, and a video cam.

Sonos has released its new remote controller app for the iPad to Apple, and expects it to show up as a free download in the iTunes app store September 29. The app, which joins a similar one for iPhones and iPod Touches, enables owners of Sonos media streaming devices to control their gadgets without requiring the company’s somewhat pricey dedicated wireless remote.

The U.S. DOT’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) division has chosen eight companies to develop prototype on-board devices capable of transmitting basic “Here I am” safety messages to other vehicles and devices using wireless vehicle-to-vehicle/infrastructure (V2x) communications. The devices will be used in an IntelliDrive safety pilot deployment of up to 3,000 vehicles

The University of Minnesota’s federally-funded Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Institute is conducting a series of seminars presenting updates on its research into human factors, intelligent vehicles, traffic modeling and management, sensing, communications, and controls. The webcasts are free and open to the public, and may be viewed live on the web or streamed on demand afterwards.
