By 2017, 56 percent of vehicles produced in North America and 46 percent of those produced in Europe will be equipped with eCall telematics, says market researcher Strategy Analytics. The firm this month released a new automotive telematics market study, which assesses car-makers’ telematics activities with respect to both “connected vehicle” and “vehicle-to-device” connectivity solutions.

“Competition between connected vehicle telematics services and vehicle-device connectivity solutions is mounting rapidly, with growing smartphone features and ‘apps’ adding to automotive product planning complexity,” observes Strategy Analytics.

The firm predicts that “price model and monetization shifts, customer opportunity segmentation, automotive differentiation, regulation, and cost prioritization will be the growing focus of automotive eCall and connected vehicle telematics services planning.”

The set of reports provide an assessment of product opportunities and planning challenges facing each automotive OEM, says Strategy Analytics. Included in the set of reports are a connected telematics vehicle market assessment, which examines key issues facing automotive telematics development, plus a global database listing the features of the main connected telematics services in operation.
