Survey: EV range, price turn off buyers

In a recent online survey conducted by Parker’s, a U.K. car buyer’s website, more two-thirds of respondents said they wouldn’t buy an electric car. Among those who weren’t interested in purchasing an EV, the main turn-offs were limited typical range (100 miles) and high purchase price,

Market analyst predicts 2.7M electric cars by 2015

The electric vehicle market will grow to 2.7 million cars by 2015, forecasts IDC Energy Insights. The firm says its research points to the need for the electric utility industry to “immediately prepare” for the resulting increased stress on the power grid, or risk “havoc.”

Mitsubishi exec sees value of commercial electric vans, trucks

According to a Wall Street Journal blog post, the president of Mitsubishi sees “big potential demand” for commercial electric vehicles, although “neither his company nor its biggest local rival Nissan Motor Co. has yet specifically targeted the sector.”

1916 electric car showcased at alternative fuel vehicle show

A restored, functional 1916 Detroit Electric brougham was on display last week alongside a Tesla Roadster and several late-model EV conversions at a Michigan event last week, AnnArbor.com reports. The exhibition marked National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day.

Coordinated off-peak EV charging will protect grids

Worried about blackouts and brownouts becoming commonplace as electric vehicles go mainstream? The solution may be coordinated off-peak charging, based on computerized charging stations in concert with off-peak pricing incentives from the electric utilities, a recently released study suggests.
